PRACTICUMINTERNSHIP

Eligible Candidates

  • Must have a CSCCa online account.
  • If an undergraduate, must at least be a Senior (with a minimum of 90 semester hours or 135 quarter hours-proof of this must be submitted in the form of an official transcript, a letter from the individual's department chairman or dean, or a verification of senior status from the institution's records office). If an undergraduate, we recommend fulfilling the practicum/internship upon completion of course work.

Practicum Requirements

  • Must be completed under the supervision of a CSCCa-approved mentor. Click here for a list of approved mentors.
  • Graduate and undergraduate assistantships that fulfill practicum requirements will be acceptable and may be completed while fulfilling class requirements.
  • There will be a minimum of 640 hours that must be completed. A frequently used timeline for completing the 640-hour practicum/internship is 20 hours per week, 80 hours per month, over an 8-9 month period. Depending upon the needs of the institution, however, more hours per week may be required.
  • A Practicum Waiver & Information Form must be submitted to the CSCCa National Office prior to beginning the practicum/internship. Candidates that begin internships before submitting a practicum waiver take the risk of their internship not being approved for the SCCC Certification Exam.
  • A practicum fee must be submitted to the CSCCa National Office by the scheduled deadline of the respective exam.

The Practicum Process

  • Available internships can be viewed on the Careers section of the CSCCa website. Internships that are approved for the SCCC practicum/internship are indicated.
  • If there are no internship postings in which you are interested in pursuing, or if you are unsuccessful in obtaining a listed position, you can contact a CSCCa-approved mentor directly to apply for a practicum/internship.
  • The CSCCa-approved mentor list allows you to search for mentors by institution.
  • Once you have obtained an internship position at a CSCCa-approved practicum site, complete an SCCC exam application.
  • Submit a $230.00 practicum fee. This is required to cover CSCCa administrative costs of the program. This can be paid online or by check mailed to the CSCCa National Office.
  • Your CSCCa-approved mentor will have access to a CSCCa Practicum/Internship Mentoring Packet to be used throughout your practicum experience.
  • Complete the required 640 hours of the practicum/internship.

Disclaimer

The Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches association (CSCCa) offers a practicum/internship program. A practicum/internship completed under the supervision of a CSCCa Approved Mentor is a prerequisite to sit for the SCCC Certification Exam. The CSCCa approves mentors based upon an objective standard. All practicum/internship opportunities for certification candidates are arranged through each mentor and/or the employer of a specific mentor based upon space availability and applicant criteria, all of which are separate from any CSCCa affiliation.
Therefore, the CSCCa is not liable and is held harmless in any capacity for any independent acts of mentors and applicable employers of said mentors toward a certification candidate not consistent with the educational intent of the internship/practicum process, which includes, but is not limited to criminal acts, discriminatory activity, physical injuries incurred by the candidate and/or any conduct perceived offensive to a candidate seeking certification through an educational internship/practicum opportunity.

An Internship Completion Verification form must be signed and submitted to the CSCCa National Office by your mentor before you will be allowed to sit for the exam. Mentors have access to, and should email this form to the National Office at cert@cscca.org no later than the scheduled deadline for the respective exam.
