PARTNER 4-WAY NECK

Equipment & Set Up

  • Towel
  • Partner

Primary Muscles Involved

  • Sternocleidomastoid
  • Obliquus capitits inferior
  • Obliquus capitis superior

Starting Position

  • Hands and knees on ground.
  • Flexion-partner interlocks fingers on forehead while athlete starts extended at neck.
  • Extension-partner places palms of hands together on top of head while athlete starts chin to chest.
  • Lateral Flexion-partner places hands on both ears, athlete will start ear to shoulder.

Movement Execution

  • Flexion-flex at neck, chin to chest.
  • Extension-extend at neck, eyes to sky.
  • Lateral Flexion-laterally flex at neck, ear to shoulder.
*Partner provides smooth resistance then pushes head back to start position while athlete resists.

Common Errors and Corrections

  • Full range of motion is not achieved
  • Reduce resistance.
